Springtime!

After a very rainy winter, it’s finally dry enough to sit in my garden and enjoy the sunshine. It’s been a stunning spring week: clear, blue sky, a slight breeze and the sun’s rays feel just warm (not scorching yet!). My garden is simply bursting with life: The fish and the frogs in the pond are swimming around excitedly, hummingbirds, bees and bumblebees hoover over the flowers all day!

Another water lily has bloomed: Mayla, the first flowers are usually small with faint color.

Barbara Dobbins continues blooming.

Tillandsia Aeranthos on a Jacaranda.

The last Camellias.. I'll miss them

The flowering peach still has some blooms

Hibiscus Sinensis

Red Amarillys

I found this nest after the last storm

Magnolia grandiflora

Probably the last Iris bloom of the year

Pink Pelargonium

And Roses: undisputed Queens of the garden, now feeling/looking a bit better with sunny days.

Honoré de Balzac, I love this rose! She's so double that looks like a cabbage!

  1. I love that moment in early spring when all the elements align, the garden feels magical, and you can simply breathe in the air and enjoy the space. Once again, I find myself envying your beautiful water lilies but the roses look great too! I saw the first Camellia sasanqua in my garden last weekend but then our current heatwave struck so I imagine it will be a while before I see any more.

    1. Hello Kris! I like early spring before days get too hot, it's like early autumm a very nice time for the garden. I'd love to see your sasanqua Camellia, all my camellias are japonicas, the sasanquas are usually early bloomers here and tolerate sun better than japonicas but unfortunately nurseries rarely sell them here.

I liked your water lily Barbara Dobbins, is stunning. I also love your rose, no-name, yellow with red lower petals.
    Enjoy your spring, dear!

    1. Nadezda, Barbara Dobbins is a spectacular water lily, extremly free blooming and fast growing unfortunately it performs poorly in cold climates where it is prone to root rot, I have more than 20 water lily varieties I will post pictures here as they bloom. Have a lovely day!

  4. Happy Spring! :)
The beauty of these photos leaves me almost speechless. Such wonderful flowers... and so many of them are pink. :)
I too like your hibiscus very much. Is it a big plant? In Italy, I had a sinensis in a pot and a syriacus growing in the garden. Wonderful plants, I miss them.
Thank you for your lovely comment on my post. Happy weekend!

    1. Dear Sara, I love pink flowers, I have a thing for pink flowers: hibiscus, roses, water lilies, camellias..all in pink! One of the hibiscus sinensis in these pictures is big, a 22 years old plant probably 3 meters tall, all the other hibiscus sinesis I have are smaller and most of them potted. I also have a big white hibiscus syriacus too, not blooming yet. Wish you a great weekend!

  5. Beautiful roses, and the water lilys. The ruffled petal edges on 'Parure d'Or' are charming. I miss Camellias--we get hot dry wind that kills them so I don't have them any more. Here we can too grow the Amaryllis hybrids outdoors in the garden--are they not a wonderful bulb?

    Happy Spring!

    1. Hello HB, I love Amaryllis so much, they grow very well here. All my amaryllis are red, I've seen them in pink and white in pictures but never in real life. I hope to find some pink and white amaryllis one day!
