Camellias, undisputed Queens of winter
The flowers of the Spiraea cantoniensis look even more delicate after the rain
Clivias can bloom at any time of the year..
I also have yellow Clivias but they are less prolific bloomers
Today I discovered the first Rhododendron buds!
In the pond the water lilies are sending up new pads! can't wait to see them bloom!
See you next time!
I wish you could send some of that rain this way! We haven't had any since April (not that that is unusual). I had Clivias in my old garden but the one I brought here, a yellow variety, has never bloomed. When I get the shade house my husband has promised to build me, I may try some in pots.
ResponderEliminarHello Kris! I really need a sunny week to work in the garden, weeding after so much rain can be an arduous task! Clivias are very hardy plants here and grow very fast. I hope your husband builds the shade house, you could grow rhododendrons, fuchsias, hydrangeas, gardenias! Have a nice weekend!
EliminarMy yellow Clivia lurks in the shade of a Coprosma tree, and has buds. It is in a pot.
EliminarGood morning MDN,
ResponderEliminarIt's lovely to see your camelia's in bloom. It's so amazing to see your Clivia's in the garden. Overhere they don't survey our wintertemperatures. I hope the rain will disapear soon!!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Rosehugs Marijke
Hello Marijke! Clivias grow untroubled here, they only dislike direct sun that turns the tips of the leaves brown but cold is never a problem for them here since frosts are rare and far between. Have a happy Sunday!
EliminarSaludo MDN!
ResponderEliminarYour pond looks very promising, I love water lilies in bloom too.
You wrote me about the rose sickness. It's very hard decision, I understand you. The wiki say: 'The only effective treatment is the destruction of infected bushes and weeds, the fight against insect vectors.
To disinfect scissors or cutter blades, you can use alcohol or chlorhexidine solution.
Carrying out the trimming procedure, it is necessary to wipe the cutting surface with a cotton swab or cloth moistened with disinfectant liquid after each use of the tool. It should be very careful not to break the stems when caring for lawns or processing.'
I wish your new rose are healthful!
Hello Nadezda! I was very careful with the shears I used on the diseassed rose but I suspect the roses I trashed recently were sick with the virus before since all came from the same nursery and all were peace varieties (the common peace and flaming peace) I will buy some new roses to replace those in some weeks. Have a great week!
EliminarWonderful flowers and it's so interesting to see how your winter is like. To think that spring is soon coming! :)
ResponderEliminarHere it's raining almost every day, and in the air there are smells of autumn.
Have a happy new week! xx
Hello Sara! The winter here is probably as warm as a scandinavian summer, that's good for some plants like Camellias but terrible for others that need winter chill to complete their cycle of dormancy and sprouting, this is the case with tulips, peonies, lupines and even roses that perform poorly with such short winter rest. Have a great week too!
