Spring is here

Spring begins today in the Southern hemisphere, yesterday it rained over half an inch in just a few minutes and everything looked like a swamp. But today was a sunny day and not very hot! I wish all days were like this..

The first roses are here, not as many as I'd wanted for this winter was extremly rainy and unusually warm and took a toll on them (powdery mildew, cankros, blackspot, rose rust..the usual suspects) and many buds were ruined.

' White Christmas'

I finally have a Lady Banks Rose!

 Unidentified white rose

 ' Charles Aznavour'

Charles again (and my dogs)

 Unidentified orange Rose

Unidentified yellow climber

Unidentified red rose

Charles again, so lovely!

Unidentified yellow rose (it turns orange as it ages)

The camellias are still blooming but some of them are dropping their buds unopened because of the heat, something totally normal.

The flowering peach looks terrific! I love this tree so much! I planted it with my beloved mother and reminds me of her, I miss her so much!

Have a great weekend and see you next time!

  1. Your roses may be struggling with disease but the flowers look beautiful to me. I love the Lady Banks rose, which is a sentimental favorite of mine. My own roses haven't done well since our drought began. Even though the drought is officially over (for the time being anyway), mine are still on a low-water diet and they clearly don't appreciate that. Best wishes for good weather this weekend!

    1. Hello Kris! I only remember a drought here in 2007 a very dry summer, very bad for my plants totally used to ample rain all year round, 2007 was a terrible year with an unusually cold winter that included a small snowfall, a once in a century event (the previous snowfall was in 1908)I lost many gardenias and hibiscus that year. Wish you a wonderful sunday!

  3. Spring is a lovely season, MDN. Your garden started to blossom, wonderful! I think the yellow climber is 'Golden showers' rose, it's similar one I have.
I do hope your new roses are healthy and pretty.

    1. Nadezda, the yellow climber totally looks like Golden shower, I just googled for it. Maybe that's her name! Roses here are rarely sold with their names in the tags, they only mention the color. More than half of my roses are unidentified varieties. Wish you a happy autumn!

  5. White Christmas is a lovely name for a rose.
My Prunus nigra made NO flowers this year - straight to green leaves.

    1. I planted a prunus nigra in the street this year, it's small but doing well. I'm sorry yours didn't bloom maybe it's lack of water or sunlight. Have a nice Sunday!
