Springtime!

The spring begins today in the southern hemisphere! The unusually cold winter has finally exhaled its final breathe and with it came some nice warm days that brought plants back to life, Early spring (just like fall) is a brief but glorious time for planting and enjoying the garden to the full, the rest of the year is basically a prelude to or a recovery from the long scorching summer. I planted many new roses in winter (I wish I had more room for a few more roses!) I hope you enjoy the pictures of my spring plants!

My flowering peach tree epitomises spring

The first roses

The Lady banks rose, this is her second year in the garden

Camellias are still blooming

My only rhododendron doesn't look great this year, it was transplanted and seems to dislike the new place

Spirarea cantonensis

There is lots of Clivias blooming

Magnolia Liliflora, unfortunately some bug ate most of its buds.

Enjoy Spring if you are in the southern hemisphere and embrace the beauty of fall if you live in the north!

  2. Your garden looks very happy! While I am always impressed with your roses and camellias, your flowering peach trees took my breath away. We are no longer getting cold enough during our winter months to prompt our stone fruit trees to bloom.

    1. Kris, the flowering peach looks great this year, it appreciated the unsually cold winter, last year with a very warm it didn't have many flowers, I hope roses will react in the same way. I hope the fall will be cool and rainy for your garden!

    1. Marit, spring here is very short and gives way to long scorchingly hot summers so I have to enjoy it while it lasts. I hope fall will be nice over there. Happy weekend!

    1. Jane, The roses are full of buds but we are having many storms and rain lately I hope this stops before they ruin the roses as happened last year when the beginning of spring was very rainy with hail storms. I hope spring is bringing beauty and joy to your garden.

  10. I love your 'The Lady banks rose', Manolo. Nice color! The camellias are my dream, that can't come true due to the climate. I think your rhododendron likes acid soil, is this ok? I always notice what kind of soil is in the spot where I want to plant a rhododendron.
    Feliz la semana!

    1. Nadezda, the lady banks rose is a lovely plant and a very fast grower, I've seen it white too, very beautiful. I think that indeed the soil isn't acid enough for my rhododendron but I won't transplant it till next winter, in the meantime I'll feed it with the accidifier I use on my hydrangeas.
